MELBOURNEmade launch

I recently shared some photo's of Flynns room that we took for MELBOURNEmade Magazine.  Well Thursday night was the launch of the new ma and Lisa and I went along to check it out. We met some great people and also ran into a few of our old faves.

Lisa was lucky enough to add some content in the Top Tips for Kids rooms and it looked so great in the magazine. Check it out below (sorry for the quality I took this on my iPhone)

That's our Field of Foxes quilt on the right!

Alli from Motivating Mum was there and it was good to catch up and have a chat.  As always she is as busy as ever helping out work at home mums get their business on track and if you haven't already signed up to her forum or workshops they are well worth it!

We met the guys (and gal) from Mi Goals and we were both lucky enough to win one of their desk calendars.

And last but not least we also met the husband and wife team from Ross Calia Photography.  Now these guys are kid crazy, they are pregnant with their fourth baby!  But they were so lovely and when I checked out their website on Friday I was so impressed with their photos we will definitely be calling them for a new photo shoot we have planned.

So thanks to everyone at MELBOURNEmade for such a great night and good luck for the new magazine!

Photographing Marlo

When we decided to get a dog one of my key criteria (amongst others) was hair, not too much of it and certainly not white so we chose black. At the time it was an easy decision and met all my cleanliness guidelines BUT back then I hadn't done my photography course and whilst I enjoyed taking happy snaps I wasn't exactly trying to get the perfect shot. Well now I have and now I am but just try it on a big ball of black fluff! It's impossible.

I have tried and tried to get good photos of Marlo with little success ao I was pleasantly surprised the other day on our trip to Bendigo when I managed more than one photo I was happy with. Here are a few of my favourites

Once a nerd....

At school I was a nerd, there is no two ways about it really. If there was homework to be done I would always do it, if there was a monitor job I was first to volunteer, whether it be bell monitor, library monitor, the list goes on. So it was no suprise when I was doing my photography course that on the morning we were supposed to show the photos we had taken for practice I had a stress out that I hadn't done enough and started randomly snapping photos of Olive.

When I turned up to the course I was once again proven to be a nerd, that is to say yes I am still a nerd! I had taken the most photos of all the students there. Oh well, what's that saying about a leopard and its spots!

I did happen to snap this photo of Olive which I really like and thought I would share with you today. (Lisa hasn't even seen it yet!)

I'm off to a photography course

A few weeks ago I clocked up another year (read: birthday) and received a wonderful gift from Mr B - a photography course. So I am immersing myself in all things photography to try and get a sense of what makes a good photo and of course studying my camera manual and photography blogs.

My favourite type of photo is black and white. It can show an extra layer of emotion that can be lost in color and sometimes show more of the soul (well for me anyway!). I have been browsing around different blogs and below are some of my favourite black and white images.

This first one is actually my nephew playing in the yard on a hot summers day. He is so full of energy and its a rare shot to get him standing still but Liz Arcus did a wonderful job of it. As you can see she won an award for this shot.

Perfect pics

I always find it hard when updating the website to get images that are perfect - well impossible really. Lisa and I took a whole heap of pics a month or so ago and whilst they are good - they are not great. So I have been playing around in Photoshop and on photography blogs to see what I can learn.

Today I learnt how to add and remove exposure and whilst I haven't perfected it yet its slowly coming along - Its amazing what you can get out of the help section!

I also finally figured out how to get a white background behind product images! Now this is something I have been trying to do for months and months! And to celebrate here is my first one - only did one, lots and lots more to go but that's for another night

Looking forward to updating the website - oh and did I mention we've got a new design coming, very excited
